KORONADAL CITY – A student was killed while 4 others were left wounded after a tree collapsed on a covered walk in the town of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
Police Chief Master Sergeant Alojado identified the victim as Albert Timbang, a Grade 7 student from Dekolon High School of the Santa Cruz Mission Inc. The 13-years old suffered serious head injuries. He was immediately rushed to Lake Sebu municipal hospital then transferred to South Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Koronadal City where he was declared dead while undergoing some treatment.
While the four victims identified as Jenny Rose Sampalan, Jewish Aban Tuson and Cristy Faith Sangkala suffered minor injuries.
The victims were waiting at the covered walk when the tree plummeted, directly hitting them.
Lake Sebu MDRRMO officer Roberto Baggong confirmed the victims were students from Lake Sebu National High School (LSNHS) in Barangay Poblacion. The accident occured in the midst of a heavy downpour of rain accompanied by a strong breeze of wind.
The local officials are now coordinating with the Office of the Municipal Mayor for necessary burial assistance to the family of the deceased.
