U.S President Donald Trump suggested to set up a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the Korean Peninsula’s demilitarized zone (DMZ) that separates North and South Korea.

Trump tweeted the invitation during the Group of 20 summit with other world leaders in Osaka, Japan.

“If Chairman Kim of North Korea sees this, I would meet him at the Border/DMZ just to shake his hand and say Hello,” he wrote from Japan.

Trump is expected to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish Pressident Tayyip Erdogan, and Chinese President Xi Jinping before flying to South Korea where he is scheduled to meet with President Moon Jae-In by the evening.

The American president made an abrupt decision to limit everyone’s expectation. He also noted that he has no clue whether Kim is in North Korea.

There hade been speculations that Trump would visit the DMZ during his weekend meeting with Moon. In 2017, he tried to revisit the guraded boarder but got canceled because of the weather.

“We’ll see,” Trump said of the possible handshake with Kim. “If he’s there we’ll see each other for two minutes. That’s all we can. But that will be fine.”

Trump had also said last week that he received a “very personal, very warm, very nice letter” from Kim earlier this month and added that North Korea had “tremendous potential” under Kim’s leadership.
