WASHINGTON – Mariing itinanggi ni US national security adviser John Bolton na nauwi lamang umano sa wala ang naganap na summit sa pagitan nina President Donald Trump at North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sa Vietnam.
Ito’y kahit umuwing walang napagkasunduan ang dalawang lider sa kanilang pagpupulong para sa total denuclearization ng Korean peninsula mula Pebrero 27 hanggang 28.
Ayon kay Bolton, sa halip na tingnan ito bilang “palpak,” dapat pa raw itong ituring bilang “tagumpay” sa pangangalaga ni Trump sa pambansang interes ng Amerika.
Ang isyu aniya rito ay kung tatanggapin ng Pyongyang ang tinawag na “big deal” ni Trump, na pag-alis sa kanilang nuclear weapons.
“So the president held firm to his view. He deepened his relationship with Kim Jong Un. I don’t view it as a failure at all when American national interests are protected,” wika ni Bolton.
Una rito, sinabi ni Trump na bukas umano si Kim na tuluyan nang ipasara ang major nuclear facility ng North Korea sa Yongbyon.
Pero hindi raw sila pumayag dito dahil inihirit nina Kim na alisin na ang lahat ng mga sanctions na ipinataw sa Pyongyang bilang kapalit.
“Basically, they wanted the sanctions lifted in their entirety and we couldn’t do that,†wika ni Trump. “They were willing to de-nuke a large portion of the areas that we wanted, but we couldn’t give up all of the sanctions for that. So we continue to work and we’ll see, but we had to walk away from that particular suggestion. We had to walk away from that.†(Reuters)
