Inaprubahan na ng United Kingdom ang paggamit ng COVID-19 vaccine na gawa ng American pharmaceutical company na Pfizer at German-based company na BioNTech.
Sa isang statement sinabi ng pamahalaan ng Britanya na tinanggap nila ang rekomendasyon ng Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) na mabigyan ng emergency use authorization ang bakunang gawa ng dalawang kompanya.
“The Government has today accepted the recommendation from the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to approve Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for use,” ayon sa government statement.
Ang MHRA ay sangay sa ilalim ng Department of Health and Social Care ng United Kingdom. Katumbas nito ang Food and Drug Administration (FDA) na nasa ilalim naman ng DOH ng Pilipinas.
Ayon kay British Health Sec. Matt Hancock, handa na nilang simulan ang vaccination sa susunod na linggo. Nakatakda na raw kasing dumating ang unang 800,000 doses ng Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines sa mga susunod na araw.
“The MHRA has formally authorised the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for Covid-19. The NHS stands ready to start vaccinating early next week,” ani Sec. Hancock sa isang online post.

The UK is the first country in the world to have a clinically approved vaccine for supply.
Tinatayang 50 ospital at vaccination centers daw ang naka-standby na para sa gagawing pagbabakuna.
Nauna nang umorder ng 40-million doses ang UK para mabakunahan ang 20-million ng kanilang populasyon.
Nagpasalamat nama ang pamunuan ng Pfizer sa pamahalaan ng United Kingdom at MHRA dahil ikinonsidera ang kanilang aplikasyon para sa authorization.
“This authorization is a goal we have been working toward since we first declared that science will win, and we applaud the MHRA for their ability to conduct a careful assessment and take timely action to help protect the people of the U.K.,” ani Pfizer CEO Albert Bouria sa artikulo ng Reuters.
