The central city of Dnipro reeling from a Russian missile strike that killed at least 40 people in an apartment building and Ukrainian troops coming under additional strain on the eastern front. Ukraine stressed on the need for quicker deliveries of weapons from the West.
Russian artillery pounded around 25 towns and villages around Bakhmut and Avdiika, the two focal points of Russian attempts to advance in the strategic eastern industrial Donbas region.
Russia continued to shell about 30 communities in the northeastern Kharkiv and Sumy regions close to the Russian border. In the south, the mortar and artillery fire hit several towns, including the regional capital Kherson, which Russian forces abandoned in November.
According to Ukrainian authorities, three children were among the 40 people killed in the missile attack on Dnipro. 39 people, including six children, were recovered from the rubble, despite the fact that they claimed 25 people were missing or unaccounted for.
“What happened in Dnipro, the fact that Russia is preparing new attempts to seize the initiative in the war, the fact that the nature of military action at the front requires new decisions on arms supplies – only underscores how important it is to coordinate all the efforts of the coalition defending Ukraine and freedom,” President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in his Monday night video address. “And to speed up decision-making.”
Since Russian soldiers invaded Ukraine on February 24 of last year, Western nations have consistently supplied it with weapons, but Zelenskiy and his administration believe they need tanks.
On Monday, Britain said that it will deliver 14 Challenger 2 tanks as well as additional equipment, including hundreds of armored vehicles and sophisticated air defense missiles.
