Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy stressed that individuals who have not registered their Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) by 12:01 on July 26 will lose connectivity.

When a SIM is deactivated, Uy said a user will lose access to their number.

Users will not be able to call or text and will also lose access to their e-wallets.

To recall, on October 10, 2022, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act No. 11934, An Act Requiring the Registration of Subscriber Identity Module (SIM), or the SIM Registration Law.

Based on the content of the law, failure to register an existing SIM within the periods set forth herein will result in the automatic deactivation of the SIM.

A deactivated SIM can only be reactivated after registration in accordance with the said law.

Emphasizing the DICT, the purpose of the said law is to protect citizens from fraudulent activities that are done through phone calls and text messages.
