Lomobo pa sa P1.22 trillion ang utang ng national govt sa loob lamang ng apat na buwan ng taong kasalukuyan.
Kinumpirma ng Department of Finance (DOF) na ang inutang na pondo ay inilaan sa COVID-19 response at economic relief initiatives.
Sa ulat naman ng Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) ang pinakamalaking iniluwal na pondo na umaabot sa P982 billion (81%) ay mula sa total borrowings ay inutang sa loob ng bansa.
Ito ay nagmula sa treasury bills at tinatawag na bonds sa pamamagitan ng P300-billion short-term loan mula sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Habang ang balanse naman na nagkakahalaga ng P237 billion o 19% ay nagmula naman sa mga concessional foreign loans at bond issuances.
“While the government is borrowing more than usual this year in order to fund healthcare, social protection and other essential programs while our revenues are down, we have to be careful about spending too much above our means,” paliwanag pa ni Finance Sec. Carlos Dominguez. “None of us knows how long this pandemic will last. As we have borrowed a lot– P1.22 trillion in just four months, to be exact–fiscal space should be saved to afford us elbow room in case future circumstances require a new round of big healthcare spending, subsidies and/or stimulus programs.”
