MANILA – Napiling chairperson ng bagong technical working group (TWG) na mag-aaral sa mga variant ng COVID-19 virus si Health Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire.
Kasunod ito ng utos ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kamakailan na magkaroon ng hiwalay na grupo ng mga eksperto na mag-aaral sa mga variant ng sakit.
“The government should create another task force ideally of medical persons na nakatutok sa bagong strain,” ani Duterte sa isang meeting noong December 26.
Sa ilalim ng Resolution No. 92 ng Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), nakasaad na magiging co-chairperson ng TWG si Dr. Jaime Montoya, executive director ng DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development.
Ang mga miyembro naman ng bagong TWG ay bubuohin ng mga kilalang scientists at health experts.
Ayon sa Malacañang, mandato ng technical working group na bantayan at tukuyin kung mayroon na bang bagong variant ng COVID-19 virus sa Pilipinas.
Pati na ang pagbibigay ng rekomendasyon sa IATF kung paano maagapan ng bansa ang banta ng COVID-19 variants.
“This Technical Working Group will monitor and identify the occurrence of new variants of COVID-19 in the country and will provide policy recommendations to the IATF on the appropriate response regarding these variants,” ani Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque sa isang statement.

Batay sa huling update ng DOH, hindi pa nakakapasok sa Pilipinas ang bagong variant ng SARS-CoV-2 virus, na unang kumalat sa United Kingdom.
