Victor Wembanyama broke a record of 100 blocks as a rookie last January 8, 2024 in Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Cleveland, Ohio vs Cavaliers.
Spurs center and power forward Wemby has played 31 games so far and his 4th block on the said game made him the 6th player in NBA history to reach that mark in their first 35 games.
The NBA records show that Wemby (2023-24) hit Tim Duncan at the 6th place as a rookie with the most games played. Shaq had 28 and Alonzo Mourning 18 in 1992-93.
The other NBA players who also reached that 100 blocks record as rookie are Shawn Bradley (1993-94), Alonzo Mourning (1992-93), Shaquille O’Neal (1992-93) Manute Bol (1985-86), Terry Tyler (1978-79).
ESPN reported that O’Neal and Duncan belong to the top 10 blocks leaders of all time in NBA history.
Meanwhile, the Spurs lost to the Cavaliers with 117 – 115. Wemby led Spurs with 24 points while Jarett Allen 29 points. They will meet again on February 4, 2024 (Philippine Standard Time).
