The Star for all Seasons proves that she excels beyond generations.
Ms. Vilma Santos received her 5th Best Actress Award from the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal held last night at the New Frontier Theater, Quezon City.
Speechless at first, the “When I Met You in Tokyo” lead actress said she did not expect to receive the award as their only advocacy is to do a simple love story and for Filipinos to go back to cinemas to watch movies.
“Hindi ko po ine-expect ito. Ang adbokasiya lang po namin talaga when we did When I Met You in Tokyo, it’s not even the Best Actress or Best Actor.we just wanted to do a simple love story sa edad po namin. Pero ang talagang adbokasiya po namin ay maging successful ang Metro Manila Film Festival and at the same time mabalik po sana ‘yong mga tao sa sine.”
In her speech, she shared her happiness as she observed that people are going back to cinemas through the 10 movies offered by the MMFF.
“With this ten movies that are showing right now under MMFF, bumabalik po ang mga tao sa sine. Sana ho magtuloy-tuloy kasi ito ho ang kailangan ng ating industriya na ma-appreciate po nila uli ang panunuod sa sine with their family, bonding, and I think it’s happening now. Sana po ay tuloy-tuloy
The Star for All Seasons also hoped for their movie to profit so that new producers may continue producing films in order to create jobs for the film industry.
“Ang inasam-asam ko lang din po ay sana kumita ‘yong movie namin para naman po sa mga bagong producers na tumaya po sa aming dalawa ni Christopher de Leon nang sa ganon mag-produce pa kayo nang marami ang mabigyan ng trabaho.”
The 70-year old actress revealed that his loveteam, Christopher de Leon, guided her in the film.
“And to my team and associate director, Mr. Christopher de Leon. Kasi ‘yong mga eksena po namin, binantayan po talaga ako ni Mr. Christopher de Leon. Even sa mga scenes na ginawa namin, siya po ‘yong nagsasabi sa akin na ‘oh relax ka lang, dito Vi ha, ayokong masyado ka ritong iiyak.’ And si Yetbu (Boyet) po ang nagbigay ng motivation nito sa akin.”
She also shared the Best Actress trophy to her co-nominees and friends.
“Shawie, my friend, this is for you. I love you. And to my inaanak, Marian and Dingdong, I love you. I share this award with you. To my friends, Uge and Poki, this award is for us
Vilma Santos’ last MMFF Best Actress award before this was in 2004 for the movie Mano Po 3: My Love. She is now tied with Diamond Star Maricel Soriano as the 2nd most awarded Best Actress in the MMFF. Nora Aunor leads at number 1 with 8 trophies.
