Naniniwala ang Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) na magagawa ni world champion Carlos Yulo na ma-sweep ang lahat ng kanyang pitong events sa 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Ayon kay GAP secretary general Bettina Pou, titiyakin umano ni Yulo na gagawin niya ang lahat para mawalis ang lahat ng events sa gymnastics competitions ng SEA Games, na idaraos sa Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
“His performance in the world championships was very impressive. If luck rolls his way, he can win all seven gold medals in men’s gymnastics,” saad ni Pou sa isang pahayag.
Bukod sa floor exercise na pet event ni Yulo, tampok din sa men’s artistic gymnastics ang anim pang events gaya ng all-round, pommel horse, parallel bars, vault, rings, at ang high bar.
Kumpiyansa naman si Pou na magagawa ni Yulo na pagbutihin pa ang kanyang performance sa pommel horse at parallel bars, na dahilan kaya hindi ito nakadagit ng ginto sa all-around sa Germany.
“The Vietnamese perform well in those apparatuses. We don’t want to give them a chance,” ani Pou. “While we’re hoping for a sweep, we won’t pressure him to go for it. All we want is for him to enjoy what he’s doing and have fun competing.
“We would tell Caloy to give the best he can and the victory would definitely follow,” dagdag nito.
Samantala, nangako ang Philippine Sports Commission na kanilang bubuhusan ng suporta si Yulo sa kanyang kampanya sa SEA Games at sa Olympics.
“The PSC has been supporting the training of Caloy in Japan for the past couple of years. We’re planning to further increase that level of support because we believe that he has what it takes to make us proud in the SEA Games and the Olympics next year,” sambit ni Ramirez.
Maaalalang si Yulo ang unang Pinoy na itinanghal na kampeon sa 49th Artistic Gymnastics World Championship.
